Consignment 101: How We Price, Accept, and Sell Your Gear
Give Your Gear a Second Life—and Help Someone Else Gear Up for Their Next Adventure

If you’ve got quality outdoor gear collecting dust in your garage, you’re not alone. Many of us have extra jackets, bikes, boots, or backpacks that aren’t getting the use they deserve. At Second Wind Sports Bend, we make it easy to turn that unused gear into cash—or even better, into store credit to fund your next outdoor pursuit.
We offer a simple, transparent, and eco-conscious consignment process that helps extend the life of your gear and keeps it circulating within the Bend outdoor community.
Here’s everything you need to know about how consignment works at Second Wind.
Why Sell Your Gear on Consignment?
Selling used gear has more benefits than just clearing out space. When you consign with us, you:
- Earn money or store credit for gear you no longer use
- Support sustainable shopping and help reduce outdoor industry waste
- Make room for new adventures and updated equipment
- Help others in the community access affordable, high-quality gear
Whether it’s a mountain bike, ski jacket, paddleboard, or pair of hiking boots, your gently used items still have value—and we know how to sell them quickly and fairly.
What We Accept
We specialize in
lightly used, high-end outdoor gear, apparel, and accessories for a range of sports and seasons. Our most commonly accepted items include:
- Mountain and gravel bikes
- Bike components and tools
- Ski and snowboard gear (fall and winter only)
- Hiking, trail running, and climbing equipment
- Paddleboards, floats, and related water gear (spring and summer only)
- Technical outdoor apparel and outerwear
- Hiking boots, trail runners, and outdoor footwear
- Packs, helmets, hydration systems, and travel gear
Not sure if your item qualifies? Reach out or bring it by during store hours. Seasonal gear performs best when brought in during the right time of year.
How the Consignment Process Works
We’ve streamlined the process so you can get in, get listed, and get paid with minimal hassle.
1. Drop Off Your Gear
Bring your clean, gently used gear into the store during open hours. Most items do not require an appointment.
Location: 725 NW Columbia Street, Bend, OR
Business Hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Our team will review your items during intake and let you know what qualifies.
2. We Assess and Price It
Once accepted, our staff will:
- Evaluate each item’s
condition and completeness
- Consider the
brand, original retail value, and resale demand
- Price the item based on
seasonal demand and current trends
We set fair, competitive prices that help your gear sell quickly while maximizing your payout. You’ll receive a full breakdown of terms and expectations when your item is listed.
3. We Display and Market It
Your item will be:
- Tagged and displayed in our high-traffic retail location
- Featured to loyal local shoppers and outdoor enthusiasts
- Occasionally highlighted on
Instagram, newsletters, or special promotions
We handle all merchandising and promotion, so you don’t have to do a thing.
4. You Get Paid When It Sells
Once your item sells, you receive:
- 50 percent of the final sale price, or
- Higher in-store credit value if you choose to shop with us
Most items sell within
a few weeks, especially if they’re seasonally relevant and in great condition.
Frequently Asked Questions About Consignment
What percentage do I earn on each sale?
Our standard consignment split is
50/50. Higher-value items or large gear packages may qualify for a different split. If you choose
store credit, you may receive a higher payout percentage.
How long will my item stay on the floor?
Most items are listed for
60 days. After that, you can choose to:
- Pick it up
- Donate it
- Allow us to discount it for clearance
What condition should my gear be in?
We accept only
clean, gently used, and fully functional items. Please wipe off dirt, remove personal information or stickers, and ensure all components are included (like straps, buckles, tools, or chargers).
Do you accept gear all year?
Yes, but seasonal timing helps. For example:
- Bring in
ski gear in the fall
- Bring in
paddle and float gear in early summer
Outerwear and
trail gear are accepted year-round but perform best before the season starts
Tips for Getting the Most From Your Gear
- Clean everything before you drop it off—we appreciate it, and it helps it sell faster
- Include original tags, manuals, or parts if you still have them
- Bundle accessories (like paddles with paddleboards, or chargers with electronics)
- Let us know about
recent upgrades or tune-ups, especially for bikes or skis
